GMFA and the Royal Vauxhall Tavern are having their annual gay London sports day on Monday 31st August bank holiday. There are lots of silly gay sports and entertainments. They're looking for teams and numbers are limited, so register quick at www.gmfa.org.uk/sportsday. Last year the event was won by the fabulous 'Sodomites', and the top fundraisers were 'Mighty Metamorphic Zebras', who managed to raise over £1,000.
Progress on gay marriage moves forward in Europe: In Hungary a registered partnership law for same sex couples came into operation on 1st July. This gives the same rights to gay couples as married heteros - except for adoption and taking the same surname. Meanwhile in the British appeal court this week, judges ruled that a pre-nup agreement between German heiress Katrin Radmacher and her not so well endowed ex should be recognized in their divorce settlement. Up to now Britain has been fairly unique: British judges paid no attention to pre-nup agreements in divorce cases. So now rich Brits can marry poor guys without fear of getting shafted if it all goes tits up.

Another 1 billion people on the planet are free to have gay sex. The high court in Delhi, India ruled yesterday that gay sex between consenting adults was legal. They overturned a 148 year old British colonial law which outlawed 'unnatural sex acts'. Religious factions in India have already spoken against the ruling, so the battle isn't over. Maybe the high court were influenced by the high profile gay Alexander the Great who invaded the country 2,500 years ago. "Continue reading" to see what the India Times wrote about him yesterday.

Lambeth Council wants to turn the whole of the borough into a "controlled drinking zone" (CDZ) raising fears for the future of Spring Gardens. It follows similar moves that have seen drinking in public in Camden become a gauntlet for the middle classes as well as all of the local drunks and addicts.
Spring Gardens AKA Mount Edna or The Grassy Knoll, which is tucked away behind the RVT in Vauxhall, has long been a meeting place for gays or as they used to be called "musicans and actors". However, those "in the know" fear that due to the regular problem drinkers that gather there (the badly dressed 24/7 ones), the council and police could use these new powers to "clean it up" - especially given that new building that's going up. Read on to see what you can do.
