MediaGuardian is reporting that " Gaydar and social networking site GaydarNation is to axe a quarter of the staff in a response to the economic downturn. According to insiders, QSoft Consulting is to make five staff redundant out of the 17 who work on the radio station and the four who work on GaydarNation. Sources said the whole editorial team on GaydarNation have been made redundant and offered the chance to apply for one editorial assistant role, with the social networking site being refocused as purely an entertainment portal. "They are going to get rid of a lot of the content and make it more entertainment-led," said one insider." Terrible news for the quality of news out there and not least for those who've worked hard only to lose their jobs. The Guardians says "those understood to be leaving are Gaydar radio DJs Simon Le Vans and Phil Marriott, GaydarNation's news editor Joanne Oatts and travel editor Darren Cooper as well as one person in the design department." We really hoped Gaydar was going to ups its game in terms of editorial and that the recession would actually be good for them. Naturally "The sales and marketing teams are thought to have escaped any cuts." Commiserations to those involved.
