Orange Group offered the Astoria around £10k for use of the venue for the night and Evolved Events were not prepared to match it, preferring instead to concentrate their efforts on Matinée after-hours which will be in all four rooms at Colosseum.
We had already had an agreement in place with the management of the Astoria and were well advanced with their advertising and publicity, all to the knowledge of the venue. Evolved had had grave concerns about the state of the venue, which is due to be demolished in January, and how much they might have to spend to make the facilities acceptable to them for the night. The prospect of this and an increased venue hire charge made the project untenable.
"We're obviously sorry for any inconvenience caused and ticket holders will, of course, get a refund or be able to exchange them for the Matinée after-hours at Colosseum. We wanted to leave Astoria on a high but without an unrealistically high level of expenditure we couldn't put on the NYE party that our clubbers deserve. We're obviously very disappointed that Orange's behaviour towards other promoters is tolerated."
