"A 25-year-old student has been found guilty of murdering his ex-boyfriend by setting him on fire in a fit of jealous rage after he was jilted", the BBC reports. Nadim Kurrimbukus, who the judge said was of a particularly jealous disposition, locked Davie's front door with glue and lay in wait for him to return from work, the whole time clutching a can of petrol.
The court was told Kurrimbukus filled Mr Davies' front door lock with glue and then waited in an alleyway with a container of petrol for him to return from work. When the victim struggled to open his front door Kurrimbukus p
oured fuel over his head and lit it, turning Mr Davies into an "orange fireball". Mr Davies received 75% burns and died 12 days later. The jury was told Kurrimbukus and Davies had been in a "turbulent and unstable" relationship for two years before the attack. They'd split up but Kurrimbukus, who denied everything, claimed things were "better than ever", and "getting better by the day". Judge Charles Tilling said "This is a case which displays a degree of calculating coldness which leads me to think I will need help in assessing what the minimum term should be". The BBC also reported that following the guilty verdict a policeman involved in the case said "It is clear that Nadim Kurrimbukus launched a hateful vendetta against Charlie Davies after their relationship broke down. This vicious campaign culminated in the horrific attack on Saturday 14 June 2008. His actions have cut short a young life and forever deprived Charlie's family of a much-loved son and brother."
