A range of celebs from Stephen Fry to Jo Brand have signed a letter calling on David Cameron to oppose the far right views of his new European allies. As you'll have read here he left the centrist group in the EU which includes Merkel and Sarkozy to join up with several new EU state leaders with some appalling views - actively homophobic.
Obama recently called on Cameron to reconsider and pull out of the grouping. We doubt a letter from our best luvvies will affect a change in the man.
Why do it? The argument goes, as versed by many, that there's a "bigger picture" so it's necessary to go along with those who actively persecute others to get what you want... even if means alienating our previous allies. It's all about the Tories and Europe and Cameron keeping the peace in his own party no matter what. So, many are thinking it's fine to put up with that as we need Cameron?! We'd rather be poor in the pocket than sell our soul but sadly, many disagree and are happy for others to condone the persecution of others less lucky than themselves. Trouble with that is you've got to be confident your luck's good.
