They say:
You best hope you still fit into those skinny jeans, cos the rumours
are true... For one night only...It's back!
Rebel Rebel, the now legendary Gay Indie Disco that mesmerised
London's Saturday nights is gonna do it like it did before.
The best ideas are the simple ones. A bunch of friends had nowhere
to go that made Saturday night feel special anymore. So an off piste
West End venue was booked, some hot to trot artwork was
commissioned, and a musical mantra settled on - Indie, Britpop,
Baggy and Rock'n'Roll (oh, and some other stuff thrown in for good
measure) - Rebel Rebel was born.
The Phoenix, in Cavendish Square played host as month after month
crowds snaked round the block to get themselves in on a piece of RR
action... And they liked dancing and they looked divine.
Guest DJs were as varied as our crowds and included Hedi Slimane formerly of Dior Homme, film director John Cameron-Mitchell, Bloc Party’s
Kele Okereke, the Horse Meat Disco boys, photographer Mick Rock, princess
of darkness Kelly Osborne and The Macabees (to name but a few). All who
joined the fray left attitudes at the door and partied in the deep, dark
recesses of the frenzy.
So, it's once again down the stairs to The Phoenix - where else?
Digging deep and dusting off those classics will be those original Hot Tramp residents, The Rebel 7 DJ's and Phil Bakstad. And as if that wasn’t enough, putting the GLAM into the glamour will be returning hosts, Anthony Crank & Alexis Caught.
