After the serial Close-It Queens shamed London by effectively cancelling World Pride London at the last minute last year, Boris is trying to find fresh folks to take over. He's asking community groups to bid and has pledged £650,000 in grants to the winner. There will now be a professional tendering process which it's hoped will avoid the usual self-elected serial committee queens assuming control and doing their worst.
The Standard claims that "Under the new process, the winning bidder will run the Pride celebrations for five years with a grant agreement from the Mayor of £500,000. The fee for using Trafalgar Square will be waived and an events officer would be assigned to the project, taking the total sponsorship to more than £650,000."
But who will bid? Continue reading, have your say...
Pride seems to be a notoriously difficult thing to run with even smaller events like the old Summer Rite procing hard. Why? We expect the earth, don't want to pay and expect a bunch of amateurs to sort it out. So, any ideas who Boris could invite to tender? Are you a professional with experience who'd offer yourself up? Or won't anybody touch this thankless task with a barge poll leaving us with the usual suspects?
