A No ID No Entry policy is being introduced across Vauxhall. They hope it will help deal with the "problems of the night-time economy". It will affect all night-time venues. We're not sure when they all need to have this in place.
Each venue will have to come up with its own system. How it will broadly work is not quite clear. It's come about due to various problems including G deaths which have made renewing licenses a nightmare.
Will it work?
As we type we hear a police car and ambulance were outside Chariots earlier. We doubt having had to flash an ID card will have stopped that. However, we hear it has helped reduce crime when trialled elsewhere and totally get why the venues are behind it. The one way we think it might work is if they check your ID against some database. When we you see how some coatchecks are run we don't imagine managing a database, adhering to data protection laws, keeping it updated and secure whilst verifying the info given is a realistic ask.
How will it work?
The venues have had work with the police and the ever incompetent disgusting farce that is Labour's Lambeth Council. We spoke to Eagle's manager Mark and if you "continue reading" you'll hear about it from a venue's perspective.
We asked Eagle's Mark what the ID thing was all about and he kindly sent us the following. Thanks to Mark for permission to publish.
As a result of a a series of Drug Related Deaths within The LGBT Night Time Economy Venues across Lambeth Southwark and Islington and other related deaths across London. And as a result of the rise in Homophobic Attacks on our customers Anti Social Behavior Issues surrounding our area, we got together with our local authorities including Health, Police and Council to start to address these issues to make Vauxhall a Safe and Sound place for our customers to visit and enjoy.
After several months of investigating and debating we are pleased to confirm that ALL Night Time Economy Venues Bars & Clubs within Vauxhall will join the London wide strategy of requiring a form of ID for customers who want to enter their premises. No ID No Entry as a Licensing requirement, has dramatically reduced a range of Ant Social Issues which have blighted certain areas for many years. Each Individual Venue will be responsible to Ensure that an acceptable system which has been approved by The Police Licensing Unit is installed which assists with this process,
We have operated the Eagle London Membership Scheme for years and this system will continue as an acceptable form of ID which will also be accepted in other partner venues.
The statistics more than show how these forms of Deterrent help reduce crime and incidents that affect all of our customers and our business and we look forward to working with our local Business Group Vauxhall One and through our own VGBF Channels To ensure this process is implemented as smoothly and quickly as possible.
Eagle London has been operating our Membership For over 8 Years.
At the same time as this process Eagle London was also engaged in a very stressful and difficult application process for a Sex Entertainment Venue License which had become a legal requirement for any venue to offer any form of Sexual Entertainment! After a 9 month consultation process! I am delighted to announce that we received our Licence and are able to continue to offer the type of Adult Entertainment our customers want.
