Mr Tatchell has written to THT, urging them to reconsider their decision.

GAYS BETTER AT 'MARRIAGE' THAN STRAIGHTS?

On the day a poll says half of Britons are against gay marriage, the Office for National Statistics (phwoar!), says “Early figures suggest that marriages are more likely to end in divorce than civil partnerships are to end in dissolution. After four years, 5.5% of marriages had ended in divorce, compared with 2.5% of civil partnerships that had been dissolved, according to figures for 2010."

IRONY OVERLOAD IN EAST END

Irony can be funny except when it's accompanied by un-Islamic threats of violence from the very ignorant grunts you're fighting for.  Yip, Peter Tatchell got abuse from local "Muslim" thugs at his demonstration supporting them against EDL. 

Tatchell's side of events is below but in short the same old NO GAYS IN THE EAST END crap surfaced from local idiots using religion as a hate tool. Perhaps they should have stopped reading Tatchell's banners and read up on what Mohammed actually thought so they can ignore the crap they've been taught. MUSLIMS COOLER THAN CHRISTIANS!

More British Muslims support gay equality than Christians, "according to a new report" by Demos. 

When asked if they were proud of Britain's stance on gay rights 47% of Muslims said yes compared to 46.5 of Christians.  A fraction of an amount but a surprising one if you rely on the press for your understanding of things.

The Pink Paper  reminds us that in 2009 a poll found no Muslim's liked gay rights.  None, not even the gay ones, which did raise questions about its methodology.  The news comes shortly after the welcome news that the East London Mosque has banned gay hate preachers - you know, like the one Red Ken invited here.

MOSQUE AGREES TO BAN HOMOPHOBIC SPEAKERS

After the horrors of the Gay Free Zone attempt at apartheid in the East End an open letter was sent to the East London Mosque.  Paul Shetler lead a coalition of gay and feminist activists, writers and publishers (including Damaged) calling for the mosque not to allow any homophobic speakers. Guess what?  They agreed with us and have promised to ban the homophobes.  It's a hugely heartening move.

TALIBABY BEHIND "GAY FREE ZONE" HATE CAMPAIGN FINED

Mohammed Hasnath, the 18-year-old “Muslim fanatic” who put up loads of those “gay free zone” stickers around the East End has been fined.

The Daily Telegraph reports how they caused outrage among the community, with one Jewish resident saying it reminded him of Nazi signs his mother had faced in the 30s declaring the area a "Jew free zone".  It’s a shame Mohammed might probably missed the point being made there.

USING CONDOMS INCREASES RISK OF AIDS

So says Father Juan Perez-Soba, a moral theologian from the Vatican. His moral theologic theory goes: Using condoms is not 100% guaranteed to prevent an infection (sometimes they break and you're unlucky etc etc), therefore total abstinence, unless you are a priest when children are fair game, is the answer. Hey - but if you're Catholic you can always do confession: Go in a small darkroom with a priest, say "Forgive me father I have sinned, I fucked with a condom xxx times last week", say three Hail Mary's afterwards and that's all right. Replace xxx with any number 1-100. Get a grip Juan Perez-Soba! More rubbish on the Catholic News Service.

MAN ARRESTED FOR ANTI-GAY STICKERS

An 18-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the 70+ "gay free zone" stickers that went up around the East End.

He's from some place called Leamouth. The police have bailed him pending further enquiries.  The circumstances of his arrest are undisclosed at this time... This is the second guy to be arrested - another young guy was arrested after being found with the stickers on him .  He was released without charge.

It's now thought many of the stickers were made and given to several people to distribute.

 

 

 

EQUAL LOVE CELEBRATION OUTSIDE BUCKINGHAM PALACE - MON 25 APR

Peter Tatchell says "End the ban on same-sex marriage. Supporters of marriage equality will hold a celebration in front of Buckingham Palace on Easter Bank Holiday, Monday 25th April, from 12 noon to 2pm. It is a public holiday. We invite you to join us."

EAST END ANTI-GAY 'POSTER BOY' - WOULD YOU DO HIM?

As in grass the twit up?!  The British Transport Police (BTP) has released a CCTV image of a man officers suspect might be behind the homophobic posters/ stickers - they've been appearing over the past two months and feature a rainbow flag with a red line through it saying "gay free zone".

Anyone who recognises the man in the image or who has any information which may assist the investigation is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40, quoting background log number B13/LUA of 29/03/2011. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

ANOTHER ANTI-GAY APP

Apple have approved another anti-gay App. Back in November they approved a free app where you could sign a "declaration" against gay rights, gay marriage etc. They removed it a week later after a successful petition on change.org. This time it's an app from religious nutters Exodus International that claims to cure people of homosexuality through prayer and therapy. These kind of therapies have been repeatedly shown to not only not work, but to damage the people who undergo them. There's a new petition for it to be removed. Sign here.

HOMOPHOBIA IN THE HEART OF EAST END COUNCIL

Andrew Gilligan has written in his blog at the Daily Telegraph that a group of the Mayor of Tower Hamlets "helpers" are terrorising council meetings with homophobia and that Mayor's not condemning it.

Gilligan says "It’s never been hard to tell the difference between Tower Hamlets’ council chamber and the reading room of the Bodleian Library. But events there have taken a deeply nasty turn since Lutfur Rahman, the man thrown out of the Labour Party for his links to the extremist Islamic Forum of Europe, was elected mayor of the borough with the IFE’s help."
